О курсе

SAX FROM SCRATCH has created saxophone lessons for those who have always dreamed of being a sax player on YouTube or in a band, but didn't know where to start. This is also the perfect place to grow into a performance ready sax player learning edgy sax techniques and being immediately set apart from other sax players.

Individual students have paid me thousands of dollars in private lessons for what you are about to learn right here! You'll get approximately 40 lessons, easy to understand videos on all levels of instruction (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), pictures, charts, supplemental documents, music theory integration, MP3's for improvising, and I'll be available to help you through the course. This course is not to be rushed. Although the course can be completed in a couple of hours, each lessons encourages practicing to master each technique.

Some of the techniques you are encouraged to learn are the growl, playing super high altissimo notes, circular breathing, stutter tonguing, and playing jazz articulation.

So start from scratch, work through the basics, learn a bit of theory, master some advanced techniques, improvise on your favorite songs, and get yourself sounding and looking like a saxophone PRO in no time!

Setting Up, Preparing to Play
By the end of this section, students will know how to hold the sax, stand or sit with good posture, and put the mouthpiece together correctly
How To Blow In The Sax
Students should be able to blow notes into the saxophone
How To Blow In The Sax - Embouchure
The definition of your mouth placement and position is called Embouchure. Let’s get your embouchure set. Place the mouthpiece roughly ½ of the way into your mouth. Your top teeth will rest on the top of the mouthpiece. Your bottom lip will rest on the underside of the mouthpiece touching the reed. Your bottom teeth should not be touching the reed.Note: Biting on the mouthpiece with teeth will cause squeaking.
Playing The First Note!
While keeping your right and and left hand in the proper position over their respective keys, press down the first key (pointer finger) on the left hand. This is the note B. Take a deep breath and without blowing too hard, blow air into the horn while applying minimal pressure to the mouthpiece. If done correctly, blowing air into the horn causes the reed to vibrate against the mouthpiece creating that saxy sound.Note: If you are having a difficult time getting sound out of the horn, don’t get frustrated. There is always a possibility that the sax doesn’t work. This is sometimes the case if the horn was purchased privately and not tested. In that situation you may want to bring it to a local music store to check out to make sure the sax works. If you purchased it from a music store, bring it back to them to make sure it’s not broken.
