О курсе

Ever want to know what you are actually listening to?  What about pick out mistakes in your own piano / music playing?  This course will train you on what to listen for when playing and hearing music.  Learn how to hear rhythms, melodies, chords, and anything else that makes music what it is.

Before taking this course, you should know:

  • How to read music
  • How to count basic rhythms
  • The music alphabet
  • If you are unfamiliar with these topics, take my first course;  Your First Course on Piano which has a 4.6 average all time rating and 31 reviews!

Unit 1 - Picking Out and Clapping Rhythms
Welcome to the first unit for the course.  In this unit, we will review the most basic concept of picking out rhythms and being able to reproduce them via clapping.  This basic technique is what the rest of the course will be based on.  After this unit, we will use this skill to write down the actual rhythms and write down melodies.
    Unit 1 Part 2
This is part 2 of the unit 1 lecture.  We will continue reviewing clapping back rhythms.
This will test your basic understanding of intervals.
    Unit 1 Practice
This is a training exercise designed to help you get a better grasp on the concepts introduced in unit 1.
    Unit 2 - Hearing Intervals
This unit will center around intervals.  An interval is the distance between two notes and is the most basic skill you need to pick out a melody of a piece of music.  In this unit, I will give you some tips on how to identify intervals using your ears.
    Unit 2 Part 2
This is part 2 of the lecture involving hearing intervals.
Unit 3 - Hearing Chord Types
This unit will walk you through how to hear the difference between major, minor, diminished, and augmented chords.  This is a very important skill since pieces of music almost always have chords and harmonies.
Unit 4 - Playing Back What You Hear
This unit centers on playing back melodies and rhythms you hear.  This skill will train you to reproduce patterns you hear on the piano.  You can use this skill to further your ear training skills.
    Unit 5 - Sight Reading
Welcome to the last unit of the course!  This unit will walk you through how to read through a new piece of music by sight.  Being a good sight reading is paramount to developing your listening skills.
