Chord Confidence Part 1 - Learn Chords on Guitar: Beginner is tailored for the new student, the not so new student (knows a few chords), or "stalled musician" (a person whose playing levels off/plateaus - because they don't know what to do next).
Beginning with the very simplest building block - the single note - I teach chords in a very practical way. I then show you, with only 3 chords, how songs make "progress" (we call this "song progression"). By the time you complete the course, you will have learned 12 chords in all - major and minor chords.
What has taken me more than 3 decades to learn, I have distilled into easy to digest lessons (Chord Confidence also has Part 2). By the use of my unique teaching style and GIANT GUITAR, I teach you how to avoid the pitfall of playing almost entirely by memory - the result of this for the new guitarist is confusion and complexity - which can lead someone to become a stalled musician. I show you how to avoid excessive "memory" playing by teaching you PATTERNS, CONNECTIONS, and ASSOCIATIONS- the secrets of "effortless" guitar playing.
Also included is tuning, strumming patterns, and ways to appropriately engage your memory - "MAKE MEMORY A TOOL , NOT THE RULE".
If you believe your MUSIC FOUNDATION should be solid, strong, practical, and with a wide base, I agree! And that's what you'll get here! And if your goal is to one day be a guitar player that can play "effortlessly", then Chord Confidence is for you! Keep it simple, but develop confidence in your understanding of music!
- You need a guitar and a tuner.Come ready to learn, able to practice several times a week for about 15 - 20 minutes.
- With the 12 chords that I teach, you'll be able to play most of your favorite songs. You'll have an understanding of the "framework" of songs, allowing you to NOT RELY ON MEMORY ONLY for playing. I teach 7 major chords and 5 minor chords. You'll understand the relationship between major chords and minor chords, and have a grasp of how to observe your guitar fretboard for patterns and connections. This is your beginning to "EFFORTLESS PLAYING"!
The first time I led worship, I was so nervous, that I led the team into a song that I didn't know the words to. It's not easy to lead worship, and to learn the ins and outs, and ups and downs involved with it - as well as the spiritual warfare associated with it.
At age 22, I had an opportunity to go on the road with the christian band Wisdom. While on the road - during an audition with Star Song Records (Newsboys, Matt Redman, Nicole Nordeman, etc) - a simple brief comment made by one of the execs changed my life (more about that on my website). Because of what he said, I realized how the worship relationship is the epitome of the prayer approaches (worship is a form of prayer - more about that in the course).
In 2014, God answered a prayer that I had - as a 'stale' worshiper - I wanted and needed more. His Answer to that prayer resulted in much of the information provided here. The 'Ascribe Worship' Method was birthed - it is the ability to worship for 8 - 10 minutes (or more) in a fluid, God descriptive way, with or without music (of course, music is a beautiful gift to worship with). The result has been never again being 'stale' (except for short periods - where God taught me to learn to grow my 'in awe' level - which I teach in the course - to keep the fires of worship ablaze and kindling).
I come from a very musical family; I am a drummer, an acoustic and electric guitar player, as well as a bass and keyboard player (one pastor actually called me the "Chief Musician"). I did mostly backing vocals with Wisdom, but also sang some small lead vocal parts.
While on the road, Wisdom traveled to many states in this great nation. (During our 3 years of touring – we played on the same stage as Bob Carlisle - ["Butterfly Kisses"] and Mylon LeFevre - both Grammy award winners - as well as Dove award winners). On multiple occasions I have done studio work, and have also recorded two solo projects; (at the end of each module is a small part of my original song called I'm Drawing You).
I live in Louisiana Cajun County with my precious and beautiful wife, Maria, and our three dogs, and am the father of 3 beautiful children.
