О курсе

Enjoy the freedom of making music through:

  • Improvising.
  • Songwriting.
  • You can but you DON"T HAVE TO read music.
  • Very little study needed.
  • Its easy: A sort of "musical shorthand".
  • A technically solid musical foundation. At the same time as having creative fun you will also be learning thoroughly the nuts and bolts of music: using, what I call, the ENGINE of music: the different keys, (music's "coloring box"). With this solid, theoretical ground beneath you, you can grow as a musician in any direction, as far as you wish: classical, jazz, rock 'n roll, you name it
  • For beginners and advanced musicians. There are even developed pianists who don't know how to improvise widen your horizons - welcome to my course.
  • Of the 24 keys, you can learn as many or as few as you like.
  • How the Course is structured:

I use, what I call a "4 Step Routine". This same routine is applied to each key.

Each section covers one key and is divided into 4 lectures, (the 4 steps):

  • The main part: scales, chords, and the first improvisation - in video form.
  • Step 1 in text and diagram form.
  • Improvising melody only, over a recording of my guitar backing.
  • A simple song you play and sing along with me on video.
  • This same format is used for each key: (section).

    Introduction.
    Now wedo the course.

    First, a few things.

put your laptop where you can see it, while you play the keyboard, so you can play along with the videos of me.

Next, please note whenyou are on a lecture, if you click to theright, the "arrow download" icon, you will see extra instructions andguidance for each lecture.

Also, when I instruct in thesetting up of the piano, to put stickers on the keys, obviosly, if youalready know the keys you don’t have to.

In thefirst lecture, just follow me on your keyboard. You can always usepause and rewind. You’ll be playing the scales and chords, first righthand then left. At the end you can improvise with me or pause the videoand make up your own.

In the second lecture you willfind the same information as lecture one (the video) but in written formwith charts. You can follow this at your own speed.

In the 3rd lecture you will play your own improvisation over therecording of my guitar backing. Don’t use chords this time, only melody -I play the chords - this means you can really concentrate on the key.

In the 4th lecture you will play and sing with me so you can usethe chords you have just learned in a song. This can lead you intosongwriting as well as building your own repertior of other people’ssongs.

Thats it - thanks ... And away you go...

If you find the video too slow for you (or too fast), you can follow the "Whole Routine" using the words and charts in the next lecture.

In that way you can go at your own speed.

The Improvisation over the guitar accompaniment backing track, In C major::

    Tips for improvising melody (tunes)

    on piano:

    1. RETURN OFTEN TO THE"ROOT" NOTE, (the note with the name of the scale you are in).
    2. HOLD NOTES ON.
    3. REPEAT SHORT PATTERNS, (exactly the same 3 or 4 notes repeated over and over).
    4. PLAY MUSICAL SENTENCES, (a long run of notes, with a start and an end - can be different every time).
    5. JUMP FROM NOTE TO NOTE, (big jumps, and smaller jumps).

    • Now play the small video below and "improvise" again (using any fingering you like), but this time, over the guitar backing track.
    • Remember, concentrate on creating MELODIES and TUNES only...
    • ...you don't have to think about using chords this time - the backing guitar plays the chords for you.
    • Use only one finger or at least only one hand to improvise with.
    REMEMBER THE 4 IMPROVISATION TIPS:

    1. HOLD THE NOTE ON.

    2. REPEATING RIFF.

    3. SMOOTH MUSICAL SENTENCE

    4. JUMPING NOTES.

The notes to use in C major:

C major. The Song Recording + chord and lyric sheet.
Play the piano chords and sing along with me on this song, "Lonesome Traveler".You will be applying the chords you have just used to a REAL song!!!This can lead to you writing your own songs.

    Требования
    • You can start from scratch. No previous knowledge is required. But advanced pianists, too, have gained from this unexpectedly simple approach to improvising.
    • You will need: an accoustic piano or an electric piano, (with touch sensitive keys) and, ideally, a sustain pedal.
    • An interest in expressing yourself through music.
    • Even if you have never played the piano before and you think you will never be able to - follow this course and the miracle WILL happen! - in the very first lesson! I've proved it over 25 years of teaching this method.
